Cabo Roig is a very popular beach resort and is located in an area known as the Orihuela Costa, which is on the southern Costa Blanca of Spain.
Situated in-between Campoamor to the south and La Zenia to the north, Cabo Roig is near to the major town of Torrevieja.
Cabo Roig is becoming a popular destination for holiday makers and also people wanting to own second homes as well as a growing permanent expat population. With its amazing weather and easy access to Murcia airports, only 20 minutes’ drive south and 40 mins drive north is Alicante, you can understand why it is so popular.
Cabo Roig Marina
The marina at Cabo Roig is one of the best marinas on the popular Costa Blanca coastline located in a stunning area, this marina has over 200 mooring spaces and a restaurant, amongst some other wonderful facilities.
The impressive 16th century watchtower around which Cabo Roig originally grew is now part of a restaurant complex (the CR Restaurant), from here you can overlook the modernised marina.
The refurbishment cost an estimated 2 million euros and it was money well spent, as its now one of the Costa Blanca’s most desired mooring spots.
The marina is situated by the well-known Cala Caleta beach and above the marina is the gorgeous Cabo Roig to La Zenia cliff walk.
Cabo Roig Beaches
Known for its clean blue flag beaches, Cabo Roig is very popular for tourists from Northern Europe along with the residents of the neighbouring region of Murcia who often at weekends flock to the beaches.
A typical seasonal holiday destination, Cabo Roig is busiest over the summer months of July and August and at its quietest in winter.
Often the best time to visit would be May and October where the weather is warm but not too hot and humid and not too busy.
While vacationing in Cabo Roig a few beaches you should visit are Playa Cala Caleta, and Playa Cala Capitan, which are clean and safe for children.
Within walking distance are La Zenia, Playa Flamenca and Campoamor beaches and also worth a visit is the historic Cabo Roig watchtower.
There is a long list if thing to do here and the surrounding area. The majority of visitors who holiday here are families with children so of course the beaches and water park nearby would be the obvious attractions. For those who love a walking holiday, Cabo Roig offers many walks on the cliff tops.
Running from Cala Caleta beach to La Zenia beach is a well-known cliff walk. Ideal to spend an evening during the summer months and providing a very much needed cool breeze on hot muggy days.
The walk offers some picturesque views of the sea and coastline along with interesting coves to explore along the way.
It is possible to catch a glimpse of La Manga in the distance on a nice clear day. There is usually a cooling sea breeze on the Costa Blanca which is welcomed on hot summer days, walkers will be in their element.
Campoamor, San Predro del Pinatar, Pilar de la Horadada and La Manga are all south of Cabo Roigf and are tourist resorts with beautiful blue beaches, shops and restaurants and la Manga is famous for its golf course, The Manga club.
Cabo Roig Strip
The fine cuisine and restaurants will leave you spoilt for choice. Many of the restaurants have won five-star awards, so it’s no wonder the locals choose to dine in the warm evenings with their families in the resort. There is nightly entertainment for adults and children in the bars in the area. Most restaurants and bars are situated along the famous Cabo Roig strip.
Next to the beach of Cala Capetan is the Cabo Roig Club, great for the avid tennis player.
For the drivers amongst us you can try scuba diving from the Playa Flamenca under the supervision of PADI professionals. For the advanced divers there are trips to several exciting wrecks and the marine reserve. Also on offer there are escorted dive trips from shore, boat diving and night diving in the warm beautiful Mediterranean waters.
Enjoy the Spanish countryside on horseback, only a 5 min drive to the Ranch at Campoamor. There are a few others El Rancho a Lod Montesinos, Club Hipco near Villamartin and El Refugio Guardamar.
Rio Safari Park
If you would like to visit a safari park the nearest one is in Elche, here you can enjoy nature amongst 4,000 palm trees and there is the opportunity to take a ride on the mini train. There is an Aqua Terrarium, Crcodile Land, Aviary and all the different exhibitions. In the summer months you can visit the ice cream parlour, splash in the pool and enjoy the speed of karting. Children will love feeding the animals and enjoy a ride on the train through the park.
